NEW YORK - Feb. 27, 2015 - PRLog -- Reach the World, the New York City-based organization dedicated to delivering the benefits of travel to K-12 classrooms, will give Andrew Evans its Cronkite Award at its 15th-annual benefit dinner and auction.

The festivities will take place on March 11, 2015 at 6:00 PM at the Loeb Boathouse in Central Park.  Tickets for the event are available at Reach the World’s website, http://www.reachtheworld.org/event/15/03/15th-annual-benefit-and-charity-auction.  The event will include cocktails, a silent auction, a live auction, dinner and the presentation of the annual Cronkite Award, honoring a professional whose work exemplifies the intersection between travel, story-telling and journalism.

Andrew Evans is a writer, explorer and television host for National Geographic.  He is the author of four travel books and a contributing author to several other travel books.  As National Geographic’s Digital Nomad, Evans spent five years reporting from around the world in real time, online.  To date, he has completed 30 assignments for the National Geographic Society, which have spanned all seven continents and five oceans.  Andrew gained a worldwide following when he made his epic overland journey from National Geographic headquarters all the way to Antarctica, using public transportation—a 12,000 mile journey.

Recognized as an explorer and accomplished storyteller, Evans has received two Lowell Thomas Awards from the Society of American Travel Writers (SATW), two Folio Awards, and two awards from the National Travel Journalism Association (NATJA).  For his unique use of new media, Evans was named a “Media Mover & Shaker” by the Association of Magazine Media (MPA).

About Reach the World
Reach the World makes the benefits of travel accessible to K-12 classrooms, inspiring students to become curious, confident global citizens.  Enabled by RTW’s digital platform, classrooms and college travelers explore the world together.

Reach the World’s current programs matche classrooms of youth with college travelers for a semester.  Most of RTW’s travelers are Benjamin A.  Gilman International Scholars, a competitive U.S.  State Department program that provides college students with need-based scholarships to study abroad.  Through a highly structured program of web-based journalism, videoconferencing and collaborative projects, RTW students go on virtual journeys with their college travelers and expand their worldview in the process.

About the Cronkite Award
Reach the World was honored to include Mr.  Walter Cronkite as the Chairman of its Advisory Board until his death in 2009.  In life, Mr.  Cronkite was not only one of the world’s most esteemed journalists, but also a great explorer and adventurer.  Reach the World’s mission is to connect students to inspirational travelers who not only explore the world, but also connect students directly to their journeys.  The Cronkite Award is given annually to an individual who shows strong leadership in the intersection between travel, story-telling and journalism.  Previous honorees include travel writer and actor Andrew McCarthy; diplomat and newsman Ronan Farrow; and host of ABC’s Born to Explore Richard Wiese.
