The Best Types of Newspaper Carrier Bags

SOMERSWORTH, N.H. - Feb. 14, 2015 - PRLog -- The term “poly bag” is a shorter reference to different types of plastic bags, typically made from polyethylene or polypropylene.  These types of bags are used to protect newspapers from the weather elements during delivery.

Bags are typically packaged in "sleeves" of 100, with a plastic or cardboard handle fastening them together at the top.  They are normally sold by the case of 2000, with 100 bags per sleeve.  If you are a newspaper carrier, we recommend that you purchase by the case, in order to cut down on your cost per bag.

7 x 21" size bags work great for daily paper delivery (Monday through Saturday). They are big enough to easily slide the papers in, but small enough that the papers don't easily fall out when you toss them.  These are great for newspaper editions on every day except Sunday.

10 x 21" size bags are perfect for Sunday papers, because there is normally much more content in a Sunday paper due to ads, coupons inserts, and additional sections not normally published during the week.  As a result of this extra content, we found it more time consuming (and often not possible) to stuff Sunday papers in a 6 or 7" wide bag.

5.5 – 6.5" wide bags are also available, and are typically a little shorter at 19" long.  These could be used for smaller newspaper editions, such as Monday and Tuesday, which don't usually contain as much content.  These bags are also a little cheaper than the wider bags. However, we found that by sticking with the 7" and 10" size, there was less confusion on which size to have for use on any given day.

Bags come in a variety of colors, including clear, orange, blue, and yellow, green.  The color is usually just a matter of convenience.  Our distribution center only supplied clear and orange bags, so that's what was used for our routes.  Some newspaper companies may require a specific color bag, which helps customers easily identify that company's brand.  As a carrier, it’s best that you check to see if your newspaper company has specific color requirements.
