Paying It Forward With Inspiration for Cancer Patients

Publisher joins with author's widow to launch a campaign encouraging free distribution of James Capuano's critically-acclaimed cancer memoir BEAST at wards and clinics.

NEWPORT, R.I. - Jan. 9, 2015 - PRLog -- James Capuano, Senior VP of the Markets Division at Thomson Reuters, passed away on November 3rd 2014 after a valiant, seven year battle with stage IV colon cancer - a battle which he chronicled in pithy detail in his 2012 memoir Beast: A Slightly Irreverent Tale About Cancer (And Other Assorted Anecdotes). In the three years since its initial publication, this critically acclaimed work has "gone viral" in paper form as a book passed around from one patient to another, not to mention families and friends, in wards and clinics all across the United States.

With the permission of Dana Capuano, Jimmy Capuano's widow, New Street is seeking to honor Jimmy's memory by facilitating and furthering the "pay it forward," pass-along nature of the book's most important distribution. For all orders of ten or more copies intended for free distribution to patients, friends and families, the publisher is now and will continue to offer a 40% discount off trade price. Further, the publisher is now and will continue to offer absolutely free copies of the eBook upon request, this coupled simply with a suggestion that the recipient consider a donation to the De Rosa Foundation for Colon Cancer Research and Prevention, based in Manhasset, NY.

A number of noted celebrities have heaped praise on Beast:

"Nothing about cancer is funny – so why did I laugh so hard at James Capuano’s personal story about his struggles with stage 4 colon cancer? Simply put: because it’s hilarious. Never one to run away from the truth, his in-your-face account tells it like it is, providing valuable insight into how this disease affects not only the body and the mind, but also family and friends. ... a surprisingly life-affirming tale." - Susan Sarandon

"The funniest book about cancer you will ever read. Capuano manages to humanize his harrowing journey without bathos and yet I still walked away crying, with tears of sadness and laughter. No mean trick. ... A memoir both tender and hard for the healthy and the sick." - David Duchovny

"Thank God Jimmy Capuano got cancer or we never would've known what a great writer he is!  His book is one of the great balancing acts in recent literature - harrowing, hilarious, heartbreaking, and, most of all, human. I loved it!" - Peter Farrelly
