Sweet Dreamzzz wins Tom's of Maine 50 States for Good $10k

Sweet Dreamzzz represents Michigan as one of the 51 winners in Tom's of Maine annual #50StatesforGood community giving program.

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. - Dec. 18, 2014 - PRLog -- In the season of hope and giving, local nonprofit organization, Sweet Dreamzzz, has been given a truly wonderful gift.  As Michigan’s winner in the Tom’s of Maine sixth annual “50 States for Good” community giving program, the organization will receive $10,000 to fund their sleep education programs. Sweet Dreamzzz is one of 51 organizations in the United States to receive this award, one from each state plus Washington, D.C., and the only one in Michigan.

Sweet Dreamzzz will use this award to fund future sleep education programs that educate students, parents and teachers on healthy sleep habits.  Parents and teachers, by participating in the Sweet Dreamzzz Sleep Education Workshops, will learn about the importance of sleep and how to establish and
maintain a bedtime routine.  Students, through interactive Sweet Dreamzzz lessons, will understand healthy sleep habits and be able to follow a bedtime routine.  The programs are twofold, bringing both warmth and comfort to the children as well as vital information they need to ensure a good night’s rest. Sweet Dreamzzz also provides a sleep kit that include sleeping bags or blankets, toothbrush and toothpaste and more bedtime essentials.

“We are grateful to Tom’s of Maine for their generosity and philanthropic efforts,” said Nancy Maxwell, Executive Director of Sweet Dreamzzz. “Their support will enable us to serve additional children and families on our waiting list. We are honored to be selected!”

Non-profit community giving program winners from each state were selected from a pool of nearly 3,000 nominations by a passionate panel of influential judges representing a variety of unique perspectives on human, healthy and environmental goodness.

“So many important grassroots organizations bring goodness to communities every day,” said Susan Dewhirst, Goodness Programs Manager at Tom’s of Maine. “For the first time we’re awarding more than $500,000 in project funding for a nonprofit in every state and the District of Columbia that will go directly towards helping people nationwide and the planet.” For several decades, Tom’s of Maine has donated 10 percent of its profits back to the community and encourages employees to use 5 percent (12 days) of paid time off to volunteer every year.
