Quality Digest Series Highlights Lean Journey at Hytrol Conveyor

Dec. 10, 2014 - PRLog -- Hytrol Conveyor Company, Inc., was featured in Quality Digest in the first of a series of articles highlighting a deep dive inquiry among members of the organization about their lean journey. Justin Cline, safety coordinator at Hytrol discussed his experience in the lean continuous improvement process at the company.

Cline shared three major changes that he observed from the plant floor during the first year of lean, “First, every employee in the cell became goal-driven to maintain work flow. Second, the reduced number of work processes within the cell. And finally, the ability to fix most manufacturing and process issues at the cell level.”

Cline described the importance of safety to the effectiveness of a lean manufacturing program, “Safety is very important. Every change has to be evaluated to ensure the safety of our employees and to ensure that the change complies with regulations. In most cases, once you apply lean principles to a work area, it takes away the majority of ergonomic hazards within its process. Lean manufacturing at Hytrol means putting knowledge behind common sense to create process flow.”

Industrial journalist, Thomas R. Cutler, authored the article titled, “Conveying Lean Excellence,”  which will be part of year-long examination of how lean touches different people in a manufacturing and materials handling organization.
