Follow on Google News | Jungle Residents Celebrate Thanksgiving FridayThe homeless encampment residents are about to be displaced. They are seeking an alternate site or delay of December 4, closing.
By: NorCal Press Residents will release to the media copies of a letter recently sent to the San Jose Mayor, Mayor-Elect, City Council, and City Manager, asking for a delay of the impending closure, or an alternate site to move to. The letter is signed by hundreds of “Jungle” residents and allies. The letter points out that City’s closure of the encampment will displace 150 - 200 people, many of whom have no other place to move to. Ultimately, our civic leaders have no excuse for their dismal failure to provide affordable housing for our people here in one of the richest valleys in the entire world. In the meantime, if the “Jungle” is to be closed, as a bare minimum, residents are asking for immediate provision of SAFE, LEGAL alternate camping areas, with adequate hygiene facilities, as long as anyone is living without a home in San Jose. TIME: 12 NOON FRIDAY, NOV. 28 PLACE: THE JUNGLE, STORY RD. & SENTER, SAN JOSE People who want to donate on Friday may bring folding tables, prepared Thanksgiving dinners, beverages, quality paper plates, plastic cutlery, napkins, table cloths, decorations, and may help with serving, set up, or clean up.
