Buddytruk Mobile App: On-­Demand Moving & Hauling Comes to Los Angeles

With Buddytruk, everybody has a buddy with a truck or van. Perhaps more importantly, the buddy knows how to drive it, too.
Buddytruk eliminates common moving stresses, such as truck pick up and drop off. It also eliminates the stress of having to drive a large vehicle without previous experience. “Driving a moving truck is difficult in a place like Los Angeles. When I moved in college, I hit my roommate’s car with a truck. While the app can be used for large­-scale moving, users do not have to move a whole dorm or apartment to enjoy its services. Buddytruk can be used to move a piece of furniture from a flea market and bypass delivery times or shipping for the too­ cool bulk item you just bought at a store.
The mobile app’s algorithm calculates time and distance, which means users are charged appropriately for the situation. If a small trip takes 10 minutes, the user is charged as such. The transaction minimum is a barely-­there $5.00 and all transactions are electronic. Drivers also help users load and unload items, because that’s what buddies do.
Much like other popular community­-based driver apps, Buddytruk does not provide or rent its own vehicles. The vehicles are driver ­owned. However, given the sensitive nature of the service (driving the user and their valuables around town) all drivers undergo a background and DMV check.
