Award Winning Short Filmmaker Ka’ramuu Kush Launches Indiegogo Campaign for Debut Feature Fim

LOS ANGELES - Nov. 24, 2014 - PRLog -- Inspired by the success of numerous crowdfunded film campaigns, award-winning writer/director and AFI alum, Ka’ramuu Kush is on a mission to raise $100,000 (with a stretch goal of $200,000) towards the production of his humorous, sexy and piercingly intelligent independent feature film, As the Freak Takes You, set to be filmed in his hometown of Detroit during the summer of 2015.

Reminiscent of the Spike Lee’s 30-year old classic She’s Gotta Have It, As the Freak Takes You follows the story of Summer Hughes, an omnisexual force of nature, as she manages relationships with three lovers: a bi-racial lesbian, a bi-sexual white man and a celibate black man, while exploring the intersection of sexuality and spirituality.

“Queer, Bi-racial and Black relationships are complicated given our complicated history in relation to them all but, we see very little of it being dealt with in cinema. This film is important because it dramatizes a dialogue amongst the sexes and orientations that are not being had.”

Kush is a standout amongst a crop of promising young filmmakers looking to optimize on this new DIY direct to consumer approach to filmmaking. He feels it is particularly beneficial to his brand of filmmaking, which tends to favor Black female-driven storylines. “Black women's sexuality and psychology are both endless sources of indulgence and curiosity for me. I'm madly in love with Black women. Anytime you're in love with something, you seek to better understand it. I seek to better understand through my work.”

Being presented as “the sexiest crowd fund campaign on the internet”, As the Freak Takes You’ Indiegogo campaign is offering a variety of exciting and unconventional rewards as incentives inclusive of custom tailored leather jackets, love coaching, one-on-one acting consultations with Hollywood casting directors and dance lessons with a renowned choreographer.

The campaign, which launches today, has already garnered the support of Woodie King, Jr,’s New Federal Theatre, IndieNight Film Fest in Hollywood, HTV/Illuminate, Skywalker Sound, Michelle Materre of Creatively Speaking, Michelle Manning of MM Productions and From the Heart Productions.

In addition to the fundraising campaign, Kush is announcing a nationwide search for a Visual Artist to create a 7x12 mural that will be featured in the film. He is seeking artists that focus on Realism, Abstract Expressionism and Black women.
