‘Wine Bottle FIER Extinguisher' Kickstarter Project Aims to Change How You See Kitchen Fire Extinguishers

SPANISH FORK, Utah - Nov. 24, 2014 - PRLog -- The Wine Bottle FIER Extinguisher™, which aims to speed up critical homeowner response times in dangerous kitchen fires, is the subject of a newly launched Kickstarter campaign announced, today, by startup FIER LLC.

The Wine Bottle FIER Extinguisher™ puts out common kitchen fires but is specially formulated for very dangerous grease and cooking oil fires and comes in an easy to use spray can, shaped and decorated to look like a wine bottle — not like a traditional fire extinguisher.

While disguising the kitchen extinguisher might seem counterintuitive, there is method to the madness.

“By making this best-in-class kitchen extinguisher fit in with the kitchen décor,” says Greg Mockett, founder of FIER LLC and inventor of the Wine Bottle FIER Extinguisher, “it gets a prominent place on the counter top, near the stove, instead of being hidden under the sink or in a pantry — saving 10 or more seconds of critical response time.”

Mockett says that these few seconds are surprisingly important, explaining that a homeowner has a 97% chance of putting a fire out in its first 30 seconds, but thereafter, the odds drop off rapidly to near 0% at one minute. And since most kitchen fires are caused by unattended cooking, that 30-second, best-odds window may have already lapsed by the time the homeowner discovers the fire.

In addition to faster response times, Mockett hopes that by seeing the Wine Bottle FIER Extinguisher daily, families will have better and more frequent fire safety discussions. “Sometimes, all it takes is a subtle reminder, to have that next critical conversation about protecting our families.”

To aid in this family dialog, the Wine Bottle FIER Extinguisher has a QR code on the back that can be scanned with a smart phone to access online multimedia training and learning assessments for the whole family.

Mockett came up with the Wine Bottle FIER Extinguisher concept after a Christmas Eve house fire in his neighborhood prompted him to look for his extinguisher and it took him more than 2 minutes to find.
