By: Storm-Tex Services Guatemala- During the Bi-Annual meeting of the Iberoamerican Chapter of the International Erosion Control Association, Storm-Tex Services President, Brad Flack, lectured about methods and materials used to help control erosion and the movement of sediments. With all of Central America being volcanic, the soils are very fertile but also very mobile. This leads to great issues of erosion and subsequently they suffer frequently from landslides and slope failures. This conference, or congress as they call it, had around 180 attendees from Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Columbia, Brazil, Argentina and even as far away as Spain. The field trip was to see a 40 mile section of the Pan American highway which is currently under construction. This highway runs from Mexico to Columbia and will be viaduct to move people and goods between South America and North America and all points in between.
