Columbus Chapter of the American Marketing Association Names Executive Board for 2014-2015

New Board Brings a Broad Background in Marketing Disciplines to Lead Growing Chapter

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Oct. 20, 2014 - PRLog -- The Columbus American Marketing Association (CAMA), the premier networking and marketing organization in Columbus, today announced its executive board for the 2014-15 year.

Leading the board as president is Jessica Hamlin. Hamlin, entering her fifth year on the Columbus AMA board, is the Director of Business Development & Marketing for two of Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP’s eight regional law firm locations; Columbus and Dayton. Hamlin also instructs and advises graduate projects in Franklin University’s masters marketing (MCM) program and teaches the full spectrum of PR courses. She recently received the Platinum STAR award, the highest level of recognition for excellence in teaching awarded to only three instructors each year.

Also joining or returning to the board are (in alphabetical order):

Christine Allen, who will serve her second year as vice president of community relations. Allen is the Assistant Director of Marketing at Franklin University where her main focus is marketing strategy. She also works as a consultant in strategy, presentation design, workshop development, social media, and publishing. Allen is an AMA Professional Certified Marketer (PCM), has won five Columbus AMA Achievement in Marketing Awards and has won two communications awards from the Central Ohio Public Relations Society of America. In addition to her AMA position, Allen is the past president and serves on the board of the Columbus Chapter of Executive Women International.

Joel Kohler is immediate past president. Kohler, entering his fifth year on the Columbus AMA board, is employed at Elford, Inc., a Columbus-based Construction Management and Contracting firm, where he co-manages marketing strategies, development of electronic and printed material, and marketing, while also serving as the lead in company branding implementation.

Michelle Messenger Garrett, who will serve her second year as vice president of programming. Garrett is a public relations consultant and award-winning writer with more than 20 years of experience crafting strategy, plans and programs for companies ranging in size from small start-ups to large corporations such as HP, Adobe and Symantec. After spending seven years in Silicon Valley where she launched her own consulting practice, she returned to her roots in Ohio. Her firm, Garrett Public Relations, was named a top 10 PR firm by Columbus Business First. She also serves on the Board of Trustees for the Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the Central Ohio Professional Education Council (COPEC).

Michael O’Brien, who will serve as treasurer. O’Brien is a Certified Public Accountant and the Controller for First Federal Savings in Newark. At First Federal Michael serves as an Executive Officer managing the accounting staff and overseeing the day to day and monthly accounting processes and procedures. Prior to joining First Federal, Michael was a Senior Auditor at a regional CPA firm, and before that, Ernst & Young, LLP.

Edward McGinnis, who will serve as vice president of communications. McGinnis is a marketing process consultant with over 12 years’ experience specializing in web-based initiatives and user centric designs. He has built marketing projects from concept to implementation with a great passion for vision and creativity. Previously as Director of Marketing with Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) and as Relationship Marketing Manager for Abbott’s Healthy Living Division, his work in web design and programming include brand management transition projects, site overhauls and dynamic database marketing programs all of which having been recognized by national industry associations for their clean appearance, user-friendly access and improved functionality.

Debra Pack, who will serve as vice president of special interest groups. As an AMA volunteer since 2010 and member since 2011, Debra Pack previously chaired the Digital SIG, bringing together the Social Media, Interactive and Mobile SIGs under one digital marketing umbrella.  Debra is Marketing Manager at Columbus Metropolitan Library and is committed to telling the library’s story. At CML, she manages the organization’s digital and content marketing strategies; writes strategic messaging; manages the creative team and video strategy; manages the on-site print center; handles vendor relations and advertising, plus ensures all organizational messaging is on brand and effective.

Susan Wagner, who will serve as vice president of collegiate relations. Wagner credits AMA’s Job Transition Group (JTG) and networking to gaining her current position, Marketing Manager at Capital Choice Office Furniture. She currently serves on the Central Ohio Chapter of International Facility Managers Association (IFMA) board as an Associate Relations chair, volunteers on the Communications team with the Society of Marketing Professionals Association (SMPS), and has volunteered on the B2B Special Interest Group for the Columbus AMA.

Shelli Welch, who will serve her second year as vice president of membership. Welch is the Director of Operations for Portfolio Creative, the nation’s fastest growing staffing and recruiting agency specializing in the marketing and advertising industry. She has previous work experience in retail, insurance and recruiting. Welch holds a BS in Marketing from Franklin University. In her role as VP of Membership, she is responsible for membership activities and membership drives.
