EUCLID, Ohio - Sept. 25, 2014 - PRLog -- From June 2013 through June 2014, Locals 373, 435, 735 and 1090 of the Indiana/Kentucky/Ohio Regional Council of Carpenters (IKORCC) donated time, skills and funds to Purple Heart Homes in South Euclid.

Purple Heart Homes is an organization that helps wounded returning veterans find homes. The homes are newly remodeled and special-needs adapted. The organization also works with veterans to help them purchase and pay for homes and puts them on the path to be actual home owners.

Approximately 14 IKORCC members and 12 United Brotherhood of Carpenters members volunteered for the year-long project. The carpenters contributed finances and time to the renovation of the home of Sgt. Demond Taylor and his wife. Taylor is a veteran of Iraq who currently works at the US Department of Veterans Affairs. The carpenters gutted, remodeled and redecorated the home complete with new windows, doors, roof, deck, two room additions and a two car garage.

“It’s not about the house itself. It’s about what the house represents,” Taylor said. “I remember feeling a great deal of apprehension initially because I was afraid. I had forgotten what it was like to experience something good without the need of giving something in return.”

“It’s truly an honor to give back to someone who has given so much for our country,” said William Karkoff, IKORCC Representative. “We are so glad we could help.”

The Indiana/Kentucky/Ohio Regional Council of Carpenters represents more than 32,000 professional tradespeople in 43 locals in Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and parts of West Virginia and Tennessee. A proud affiliate of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters, which has a century-plus tradition of representing the best of the building trades, the council works in partnership with more than 30,000 contractors, helping them find the best possible talent for their projects. The hallmark of the regional council is three-fold: training, professionalism and partnerships for economic development.
