Madden began his blood banking career as a phlebotomist at Greenville Hospital System before joining TBC’s hospital services. Several positions in manufacturing followed as he learned the processes and technical services necessary to monitor and manufacture blood products. Then, in 2002 Madden was named Executive Director of Biologics and Technical Services, managing TBC’s state-of-the- Since 2003, Madden helped lead the construction of five donor collection centers, one acquisition, and successfully integrated three new hospitals as full-service customers, giving more patients access to vital blood products. Most recently, he led a new business expansion into Western North Carolina to serve a broader community and a greater number of patients in need of blood. He also increased activities in the North Carolina region to self-sustaining levels within the first 15 months of expansion. Madden has distinguished himself as a leader in the blood banking industry on both the regional and national level. Madden earned a Bachelor of Science in biology at Erskine College, followed by a Bachelor of Science in medical technology at the Medical University of South Carolina. He received a Master of Business Administration in management and strategy from Western Governors University. “The Blood Connection is well-positioned to serve the needs of patients in new communities and I am enthusiastic about the opportunities ahead,” said Madden. “I’m looking forward to my expanded role, and I remain dedicated to fulfilling a vital mission that supports the community blood supply.” About The Blood Connection Founded in 1979, The Blood Connection is the largest independently managed, non-profit community blood center in the region. It recruits donors and collects blood within a 7,790 square mile area including Northwestern South Carolina, Western North Carolina and Northeastern Georgia. South Carolina counties include Greenville, Spartanburg, Union, Cherokee, Pickens, Oconee, Greenwood, McCormick, Laurens, and Newberry. The Blood Connection also collects blood in Stephens County, Georgia, as well as Polk, Henderson, Rutherford, and Buncombe Counties in North Carolina. Licensed and regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, The Blood Connection collects blood from donors through bloodmobiles, portable field units, and fixed donation sites.
