VENTURA, Calif. - Sept. 10, 2014 - PRLog -- Ventura Consulting Group (http://www.venturaconsulting.com/about) (VCG), a global builder of world-class construction industry teams, was recently honored with awards on four projects the firm successfully facilitated. The awards were presented by the Associated General Contractors (AGC) of California, International Partnering Institute (IPI) and Caltrans. Three of the firm’s facilitators also received Master and Senior Level Certification from IPI.

IPI Partnering Awards

The International Partnering Institute celebrated its fifth annual Partnering Awards Ceremony on May 15, 2014 at the SFO International Airport Museum.  During this event, project owners, contractors, facilitators, construction managers, designers and other associated construction professionals gathered to celebrate the nation’s most collaborative organizations and project teams. Two projects facilitated by VCG were among the award winning teams at the ceremony.  These included the Doyle Drive Utilities Relocation Contract #2 which received a Ruby Level Award and the Sacramento Rail Yard Track Relocation project which received an Honorable Mention. The Doyle Drive project was a collaboration of the California Department of Transportation, Presidio Trust, Ghilotti Bros., Inc., and Arup/Parsons Brinckerhoff – A Joint Venture.  The Sacramento Rail Yard project team included the City of Sacramento, Granite Construction Company, TranSystems and Vali Cooper and Associates.

During the awards ceremony, three VCG facilitators were also honored for their efforts to make the industry more collaborative. VCG President Jim Eisenhart and senior level Facilitator Paul Crotty earned Master Level Certification. Neal Flesner, who serves as facilitator, change consultant and strategic marketing director for VCG, received Senior Level Certification from the IPI.

The IPI is dedicated to construction culture change and the promotion of industry best practices in Collaborative Partnering. Its Panel of Professional Neutral Partnering Facilitators is committed to outstanding Collaborative Partnering in the field of construction, and each IPI member follows a common code of ethical principles established by the organization.

AGC of California Constructor Awards

Among a crowd of more than 250 construction industry professionals, the AGC of California (http://agc-ca.org/) presented its Excellence in Partnering Award (http://www.agc-ca.org/about.aspx?id=60) to two project teams during its 2014 Constructor Awards banquet held at Disney’s Grand Californian hotel in Anaheim on June 7, 2014.  The awards were given for one project under $50 million and one over $50 million.

VCG facilitated the partnering on the new LEED-Gold designed Naval Hospital at Camp Pendleton which was the recipient in the over $50 million project category. Earlier in the year, the Naval Hospital project won the AGC Build America Marvin M. Black Excellence in Partnering Award, the industry’s highest partnering honor.

Built by Clark/McCarthy, a joint venture, the replacement hospital project was delivered six months ahead of schedule and more than $100 million below the Navy’s original budget. Located just inside the main gate on the south end of Camp Pendleton, the project included construction of a 500,000-square-foot hospital; a central utility plant; a new 1,500 space parking facility and 1,000 surface parking spaces. In addition to leading the project’s design and construction efforts, Clark/McCarthy conducted the planning, procuring and installation of all medical equipment, furniture and artwork as well as the training of hospital staff. This was the first time the Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southwest had relied on this contracting method.

Caltrans Partnering Awards Program

Caltrans honored VCG with a Gold Best in Class Partnered Project Award during its Annual Partnering Awards ceremony which was held in April 2014.  During the event, VCG was recognized for its role as partnering facilitator in the Route I-5 Median Shoulder Improvement Project from Route 605 to Washington Blvd. Built by Vanguard Construction, this highway project upgraded the median barrier along I-5 between Los Angeles and Orange County, including several bridges and under-crossings in the cities of Downey and Commerce.  The project team’s commitment to collaboration through partnering was instrumental in the development of innovative construction techniques and exceptional safety procedures on this high-volume freeway project which was completed early and $800,000 under budget.

“We are honored to receive industry recognition for our role working with these exceptional project teams,” said VCG President Jim Eisenhart. “Each one of them successfully collaborated to overcome project challenges and meet common goals, ultimately building not only world-class projects, but also world-class teams.”
