DALLAS - Sept. 4, 2014 - PRLog -- Big Brothers Big Sisters would like to invite North Texas to an evening of song and dance, excitement and energy with America’s First Mashup Group – The Company Men – at its 2014 Big Black Tie Ball on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at the Omni Dallas Hotel.  This year, Big Brothers Big Sisters’ largest fundraising event will put a spotlight on the organization’s Amachi Texas Program. Amachi Texas is a statewide initiative that works to “break the chain” of incarceration through one-to-one mentoring of children who have a significant family member incarcerated, on probation or on parole. Visit amachitexas.org for more information.

The honorary chair of the event is Harriet Miers.  Considered by many to be a trailblazer for women in the legal field, Miers served in the administration of President George W. Bush as Staff Secretary, Deputy Chief of Staff, and Counsel to the President. She is currently a partner at the law firm of Locke Lord LLP and serves on the Executive Board of Directors for Big Brothers Big Sisters.

CBS 11’s Doug Dunbar will serve as the event’s co-emcee. As part of the program, Doug will interview Khalil Coffield, a former Little Brother and Amachi participant who is currently a sophomore at University of Houston. Khalil serves as a shining example of how it is possible to break the incarceration chain.

The funds raised from the Big Black Tie Ball will directly benefit thousands of children like Kahliel that are either part of the Amachi Texas program or are waiting for the chance to have a mentor. Each $500 raised will remove one child from our waiting list and match them to a mentor who will enrich, empower and encourage them to reach their highest potential.

The Company Men will bring to Dallas a performance that harkens back to an earlier era, while pushing the boundaries of today’s current sound. The “Modern Day Rat Pack” has shared the stage with Natalie Cole and Chaka Khan, and performed for music legends Quincy Jones and Berry Gordy. Visit thecompanymen.com for more information about the group.

In addition to The Company Men’s performance, the Gala will also include a cocktail reception and dinner, as well as a silent and live auction. Guests at this year’s gala will have the opportunity to bid on items that are truly unique. Topping that list are a vacation at a private luxury resort in Bali for eight guests and a week’s stay at a private estate in Colorado.

This event is open to the public and sponsorship opportunities are available. Individual tickets are $350 and couples tickets are $500. Please visit bbbstx.org/bigblacktieball or contact 888.887.BIGS to purchase tickets or for more event information.

About Big Brothers Big Sisters

Big Brothers Big Sisters, the nation’s largest donor and volunteer supported mentoring organization, holds itself accountable for children in its program to achieve measurable outcomes, such as educational success; avoidance of risky behaviors; and higher aspirations, greater confidence and better relationships.  Partnering with parents/guardians, schools, corporations and others in the community, Big Brothers Big Sisters carefully pairs children (“Littles”) with screened volunteer mentors (“Bigs”) and monitors and supports these one-to-one mentoring matches throughout their course.  The first-ever Big Brothers Big Sisters Youth Outcomes Summary, released in 2012, substantiates that its mentoring programs have proven, positive academic, socio-emotional and behavioral outcomes for youth, areas linked to high school graduation, avoidance of juvenile delinquency and college or job readiness.

Big Brothers Big Sisters provides children facing adversity, often those of single or low-income households or families where a parent is incarcerated or serving in the military, with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one mentoring relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.  This mission has been the cornerstone of the organization’s 85-year history. Big Brothers Big Sisters Lone Star serves over 30,000 children, volunteers and families through 20 offices and over 100 counties in Texas.
