Farmer began his legal career in 1973 as a law clerk to a U.S. District Judge. In 1975, he became a partner in the law firm Abrams, Anton, Robbins, Resnick & Schneider P.A. He moved to the firm Goldberg, Young & Borkson, P.A. in 1982. From 1984 to 1991, he worked for Gary M. Farmer, P.A. Later, he was appointed to the Fourth District Court of Appeal where he served for 20 years.
