Digital Bowling, The Latest Bar Craze

MARATHON, Fla. - Aug. 12, 2014 - PRLog -- The sounds of pins being smashed by a heavy ball, the hooting and hollering when a strike is made are common sounds of a bowling alley in America. Bowling alleys have fallen in popularity in recent years and may be on their way to becoming the Drive-In theatre. I hope not. But now there is an option. Where else can you compete in a sport that takes talent and/or teamwork, you can drink a beer and be an athlete at the same time while smoking a cigarette.  The sport I'm refer to is bowling. Don't have a bowling alley in your town? Fear not. There is a new sheriff on town and he is known as Wii Bowling. Wii is a game console that uses a joystick/numchuck thinghy that allows you to bowl to a big screen with all the sounds associated with bowling. You can even create teams and roll curve balls with the flick of a wrist. It's os intoxicating that is quickly becoming one of the most popular activities in bars around the country.

One place in particular has devoted one night a week to Wii bowling and is creating teams to compete for a trophy and prizes. Dockside Tropical Cafe' began having Wii bowling on Tuesday nights to fill the void of entertainers during the slow season. Located in the Florida Keys, bars and restaurants slow way down in the summer due to lack of traffic. " We wanted to keep some sort of entertainment 7 nights a week but were looking too cut costs in the Summer", says owner/operator Eric Stone. One of their patrons suggested Wii Bowling. Eric did some research and purchased a game console, a HD projector and screen and set up the first night of bowling in June. It has gotten really popular and they plan to continue until high season. "The cost of buying the game and gear has paid for itself already", says Eric. Young and old alike play together. It's awesome!

To experience Wii bowling for yourself, stop by Dockside Tropical Cafe' on any given Tuesday, if you are in the Keys. Locals and tourists alike enjoy the game and the camaraderie. Who knows maybe one day Wii Bowling will be an olympic sport. Crazier things have a happened.
