Advanced Roofing Wins First Place for Solar Installation at JM Family Enterprises

Awards Program for its commercial rooftop solar photovoltaic installation at  JM Family Enterprises’ headquarters in Deerfield Beach, Florida.

S.T.A.R.—Spotlight Trophy for the Advancement of Roofing is a new program designed by the Florida Roofing, Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors Association (FRSA) to recognize members’ unique and outstanding projects completed in the state of Florida.

With the best completed rooftop solar installation in the state of Florida, Advanced Roofing Inc. (ARI) won first place in the Sustainable Energy Category for the 2014 S.T.A.R. Awards Program presented by FRSA. The recognition was based on overcoming challenges during construction of a 150 kilowatt solar array atop of JM Family Enterprises’ (JMFE) corporate headquarters in Deerfield Beach, Florida. Challenges included maintaining the pre-existing GAF 20 year NDL Warranted modified bitumen roofing system and satisfying strict South Florida hurricane, fire and building codes. ARI accepted the award on July 11th, 2014 at the FRSA's 92nd Annual Convention in Orlando, Florida.

Collaboration between JMFE, Advanced Roofing, FM Global, GAF Materials Corporation, and the Deerfield Beach Building Department was paramount in completing this project on time, and on budget.”

The completed solar project can produce up to 200,000 kWh of electricity and reduce carbon emissions by 130 metric tons annually. JMFE received a significant rebate from the local utility and 30% Federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC) and will see a return on their investment within 7-10 years, giving them 15 years of free, clean burning energy. Furthermore, ARI  was able to maintain the pre-existing roof warranty, satisfy wind, fire and building codes, all while completing the project on time, and within budget with zero safety issues or disruptions to the JMFE’s daily operations.
