Bull City Toastmasters Club Celebrates 20 Years

MORRISVILLE, N.C. - July 2, 2014 - PRLog -- The Bull City Toastmasters club is pleased to be celebrating their 20th Anniversary this summer.

The club was chartered in Durham in April of 1994, and was focused on teaching public speaking and leadership skills to professionals, college students, and other adults. They are the second oldest Toastmasters club originating in Durham. In 2012 the club changed its meeting location to Morrisville. The group decided to keep their name even though they no longer meeting in the Bull City.

Toastmasters provides a supportive and positive environment where members have the opportunity to overcome their fear of public speaking and sharpen presentation skills. Other benefits include the opportunity to increase one’s confidence, build critical thinking skills and become an effective listener. Members learn about giving feedback, accepting compliments and suggestions for improvement, and extemporaneous speaking.

“When I first joined Toastmasters, I spoke way too fast,” said Sharon Dawson, Vice President of Public Relations. “People couldn’t understand what I was saying and I would be out of breath at the end of a speech. Toastmasters taught me how to pause, calm my nerves, and. They helped me get rid of distracting habits like playing with my wedding ring when I was giving a presentation – habits I hadn’t even been aware of.”

Bull City Toastmasters meets on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of every month at 6:30 pm. They meet at DeVry University on 4 Copley Parkway in Morrisville. Learn more about the club on their website at www.bullcitytoastmasters.org.
