Web Pros Prefer Windows over Mac

Report: web designers and developers mostly use Windows with Chrome browser at work and are lazy on social media
 
VILNIUS, Lithuania - June 30, 2014 - PRLog -- TrackDuck.com is an innovative visual feedback tool for web designers and developers, designed to smooth feedback process in the project.

This report is based on analysis of over 16 000 feedback points created within TrackDuck app in the past 4 months.  When feedback is submitted, a task in TrackDuck is created automatically, which contains screenshot of the issue, comment and technical data on user’s browser, OS, screen resolution, etc.

Here we present you a brief overview of the technical background and social activity of nearly 6000 web designers and developers in 109 countries.

It has always been an interesting topic - what software web designers and developers use themselves to build and browse the web. After analyzing TrackDuck usage we found that Windows operating system (63%) is still the most popular among our app users. Windows 7 version is the most used by Windows users. Mac OS came second getting 27%.

When it comes to browsers, Chrome is the king, taking a lion share of 76%. Followed by 17% Firefox users in strong 2nd and Safari in third with 5%. Success of Chrome browsers could also be explained by large amount of apps and tools for website development.

According to W3Schools.com web statistics and trends most popular resolution is 1366x768. We found, that this is where  web designers and developers are much different from the rest of the world. According to our screen resolutions analysis, 34% use 1920x1080 and 1366x768 got it’s share of 15%. This result shouldn’t surprise anyone. You need a lot of space on screen while working with multiple apps simultaneously.

TrackDuck.com app users data shows, that web designers and developers are not very active on social networks. Those with Klout account scored 23 rating, quite below average over all industries 40% according to official Klout report. 60% of them had score below 20.  Only 1% had 63 of higher score, a result that puts them into Top 5% of Klout. The highest Klout score we saw was 69.

We took a sneak peak at average amount of Twitter followers of our  app users. Figures of social presence also didn't stand out as much. According to bevolve.com latest report an average Twitter user had 208 followers in 2014. 75% of TrackDuck users had 100 followers or fewer, while only 8% had 500 or more, highest number being 150 000 followers.

According to this report, standard web designer or developer is a Windows user, with a Chrome browser, prefers big screen resolution  and not very active on social networks.
