Renovation repositions the center to better meet the needs of local consumers

MOORPARK, Calif. - June 26, 2014 - PRLog -- Construction is complete on Nadel Architects (http://www.nadelarc.com/)’ exterior redesign of Moorpark Town Center located at 1 W. Los Angeles Ave. in Ventura County. Originally built in 1985, the 140,000-square-foot retail center, owned by Sunbelt Enterprises, LLC, underwent an exterior renovation to reposition the center as an ideal shopping destination. Nadel was in charge of the redevelopment project through conceptual design, which started in November of 2011, to its completion in May.

“Sunbelt Enterprises was looking to move away from the original design, which they felt was uniform and lacked interest,” said David Anderson, AIA, retail studio director at Nadel Architects. “By adding tower elements and intricate tiling to the roofing as well as new lighting and landscaping, we were able to upgrade the aesthetic appeal of the center and create more of a Mediterranean village environment to appeal to local shoppers.”

Nadel’s redesign included a new exterior façade, upgraded architectural components and landscaping. To integrate the Mediterranean village style into the existing structures, the renovation involved the incorporation of the existing canopy structures into a cohesive design scheme of tower elements in varying heights, cornice detailing and trellises. An al fresco plaza covered by open trellises was also added to complete the village-inspired atmosphere.

Located at the northwest corner of Los Angeles and Moorpark Avenues, Moorpark Town Center, is anchored by Ralphs and includes national retailers such as CVS/pharmacy, Chase, Papa Johns, Sherwin Williams, Round Table and Taco Bell.

In addition to Anderson, the design-build team includes Keith Martinez, project manager of Nadel Architects; Richard Green, vice president of real estate of Sunbelt Enterprises; Kulwant Brah, structural engineer of BP Consulting Engineers; and Lino Palmieri, electrical engineer of Palmieri & Associates, who worked alongside the Camco Pacific team of general contractors.

Nadel has recently worked on a variety of similar retail repositioning projects in California, including The Village at Nellie Gail Ranch in Laguna Hills; Heritage Plaza in Irvine; Granada Village in Granada Hills; Oakbrook Village in Laguna Hills; Euclid Marketplace in San Diego; and Poway Plaza in San Diego.
