![]() Mr. Shrinkwrap Preserves Historic LocomotiveBy: Mr. ShrinkWrap Mr. ShrinkWrap’s technicians used a custom reinforced shrink bag to cover the 110 foot long historic locomotive and the attached caboose. The custom shrink bag provides an impermeable layer with UV and anti-corrosive properties that will serve as an outdoor storage solution until renovations to the Transportation Center are complete. The preservation project was a collaborative effort between Mr. ShrinkWrap, Amtrak, and Norfolk Southern Corp. and coordinated by The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. Each of Mr. Shrinkwrap’s five technicians involved on this project were safety trained and qualified for rail access. About GG1 Locomotive The GG1 #4859 Locomotive was built in December, 1937 at the Pennsylvania Railroad Altoona Works. Designed by Raymond Loewy, the electrically powered locomotive is over 79 feet long and stands 15 feet tall with a max speed of 90 mph.
