Follow on Google News | Hope Haven Farm Sanctuary Joins Forces with Steel City Pet Expo to Provide Educational ExperienceHope Haven Farm Sanctuary will be at the 2014 Steel City Pet Expo with their animals to provide adults and children alike with a demonstration of the individuality and personality of farm animals.
By: Amazing Expos Hope Haven Farm Sanctuary’s founder, Karen Phillips, came up with the idea in 2008 after being inspired by Isaac, a pot-bellied piglet she was rehabilitating. Watching Isaac, she saw his personality shine through as he romped around her home. As a spay and neuter veterinary surgeon, she also started to witness as more and more farm animals were being surrendered at the shelter she worked at – farm animals, unfortunately, typically can’t be housed properly at most rescues. With the intention of finding a way to safely house these animals, the farm sanctuary was born. In June of 2011, Hope Haven Farm Sanctuary found their physical location. With a new home nestled in the hills of Northern Pittsburgh, Phillips and her volunteers are able to rescue many farm animals. Currently they house over 100 animals, including a llama, an alpaca, some goats, a horse, pigs, chickens, turkey, ducks, geese, peafowl, guineas, and even an emu! “[These animals] now live out their lives with comfortable housing, nutritious food, and companionship from others of their own kind,” says Phillips. “They also receive endless love and affection from the human components of the sanctuary!” Phillips invites all who are interested to check them out online at http://www.hopehavenfarm.org and to find them at the 2014 Steel City Pet Expo. The Steel City Pet Expo will also feature opportunities for fan photos and autographs with both Shorty Rossi (Animal Planet’s “Pit Boss” & “America’s Cutest Pets”) and Celebrity Dog Trainer Harrison Forbes (“Good Morning America” and the “Today Show”), along with more than 70 exhibitors, live entertainment and demonstrations, and a Petfinder.com mega-adoption area with more than 150 rescue pets available for adoption. Low-cost immunizations, discounted microchipping and free nail trims will also be available for all the furry friends who need them. The event will take place on Saturday, June 28th, 2014 from 10am to 6pm, at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. This free, indoor and air-conditioned event is expected to attract more than 12,000 attendees along with their furry, feathered and reptilian pals who are looking to enjoy a new and one-of-a-kind experience where all pets can enjoy a fun day out with their pet parent(s). All well-behaved pets are welcome, as long as they’re on a fixed lead (or in a carrier) and have proof of age-appropriate rabies vaccines. The 2014 Steel City Pet Expo is produced by Amazing Expos, a leading event production firm that currently produces more than 39 large pet expos across the United States.
