Jersey Mike’s Month Of Giving Raises More Than $114,000 For Wipe Out Kids’ Cancer

June 6, 2014 - PRLog -- DALLAS/FORT WORTH, June 6, 2014Wipe Out Kids’ Cancer (WOKC), in partnership with Jersey Mike’s Subs, raised $114,120.53 during the annual Jersey Mike’s “month of giving” campaign in March.

Wipe Out Kids’ Cancer teamed with 19 Jersey Mike’s Subs restaurants in the Dallas/Fort Worth for the fourth Annual  “Month of Giving” fundraising campaign to raise money and awareness for childhood cancer research in the DFW community.  From March 1-31, all DFW Jersey Mike’s restaurants made a $.25 cent donation to WOKC for each regular sub sold and a $.50 cent donation for each giant sub sold.  Jersey Mike’s designated Wednesday, March 26, “Make a Difference Day for WOKC” and donated 100 percent of sales from the 19 DFW Jersey Mike’s restaurants to Wipe Out Kids’ Cancer on that day.

Cancer is the number one cause of death by disease in American children, and their only hope of a cure is through additional research.  The Month of Giving campaign has raised a total of nearly $340,000 over the last four years for Wipe Out Kids’ Cancer, funding that has been used to fund research trials investigating new treatment options for four types of childhood cancers:  medulloblastoma,  neuroblastoma, osteosarcoma and Ewing’s sarcoma.

The Month of Giving has also given hope to a group of special kids undergoing cancer treatment at Children’s Medical Center Dallas and Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth:  the WOKC Ambassadors.  The Wipe Out Kids’ Cancer Ambassadors represent the 650+ pediatric cancer patients at Children’s and Cook Children’s, and are the heroes behind the WOKC mission to work relentlessly for the day when all children are living cancer free.

"Each day 46 children in America receive the devastating news that they have cancer.  One in every 5 will not survive this diagnosis.  Thanks to the incredible support of donors like Jersey Mike’s, we are making a difference in the fight for better treatments and the search for a cure,” said Evelyn Costolo, CEO for Wipe Out Kids’ Cancer.  “Jersey Mike’s understands the importance of standing together for the future of our children. The funds raised through the Month of Giving will provide funding for critical research projects that give hope to our vision of a day when all children are living cancer free.”

DFW residents can make a difference for the WOKC Ambassadors--and all kids with cancer--in March just by eating a sub at any of the 19 DFW Jersey Mike’s restaurants.   For more information, visit www.wokc.org.
