Marshall Barnes Posts New "Paranovation" Blog Post On Clayton Christensen - Jill Lepore Debate

Marshall Barnes is returning to blogging with a bang by weighing in on the debate over disruption theory, saying Jill Lepore doesn't have the ability to do anymore than skirmish, but that he will win the war against disruption theory hype.

June 30, 2014 - PRLog -- Marshall Barnes, R&D Eng, has returned to blogging after being away from the practice since his main sites, SpeakerSite, TedTalks and Not Just Rocket Science went down back in 2012. He is blogging from his profile on NineSights online community for open source innovators from NineSigma, the largest open source innovation organization in the world. His blog there, The "In" of Novation, will deal primarily with technology issues involved with the innovation business, while Paranovation at blog.com, will be his platform for attacking what he sees as major errors and bad practices in the innovation promotion field. He's also planning another disruptive blog that will be the launching pad for what he sees as the point of the spear leading the counter attack against the so-called "science elite".

"Blogging can be a good way of getting your message and agenda out and projecting power across the web," Marshall said while preparing for a major meeting concerning his upcoming projects in space tourism, home video and television programming. "There are certain key areas that I intend to begin to have a significant influence in and blogging is a key tool for launching that. I used it successfully in other areas from previous blogging platforms that I was involved with that were associated with particular sites. When those sites went away, I switched from blogging to focusing full time on making certain accomplishments in science and STEM, which have now established my credibility beyond reproach, and so now I'll be using blogging to clear the path for the next phase of my expansion into the innovation promotion business and the battle over the co-opting of science by those who want to create a new kind of priesthood with the power to control society with the force of law."

In the past, Marshall was known for favoring longer blogs than some. Many bloggers like short hits, but Marshall's always had some length to them and often, supporting video, offering a more engaging experience. He did this for several very good reasons.

"Look, if I'm writing something, then I have something to say. If a person doesn't have time to read it, then guess what? They can read it later. If they don't, that just means that it wasn't meant for them. In many ways, it serves as a filter - the ones that don't read it aren't going to gain the info that the ones that do, will. Guess who's going to be smarter? I have no tolerance for this 'people don't read' mentality, in part because it isn't true. The internet is made-up of words. People read stories there all of the time. They read comments and blogs. The idea that people don't read anymore is stupid and I don't listen to stupid ideas."

Stupid ideas are in part what brought Marshall to engage on the debate over disruption theory that began with an article written by Harvard historian Jill Lepore attacking Harvard business professor Clay Christensen. Marshall sees Jill's use as limited, a throw away weapon that blew a hole in the wall that Marshall intends on leading the charge through.

"I knew there was going to be a backlash because disruption theory has gotten to the point that it's meaningless and this whole habit of making up these stupid buzzwords has got to stop because all it does is promote the promulgation of more and more B.S."

"Someone has to not only stand-up and say 'enough is enough' to all this malarkey but have the gumption to back it up with a sustaining force. Lepore is no where near being able to do that, and I'm in a unique position, because, like that game of Six Degrees from Kevin Bacon, I'm only two away from Clay Christensen because it was Julie Anixter from Innovation Excellence that selected me to be one of the 25 innovators to be featured in Boston at the IX Innovation Cities event there, last May (see http://www.prlog.org/12317555-marshall-barnes-selected-to... ) and that event was sponsored in part by Disruptor Foundation, which Clay founded. But in the end, it's not about Clay anyway, but this whole system of ideas that miss the point. So if I'm good enough to be there, and I've certainly proved my abilities in innovation across a wide range of fields, then I hold a unique position that Lepore doesn't. She's not an innovator. She's not been through the battles that we in the private sector endure. She's not a battle tested warrior. I am, and have the remains of the vanquished to prove it."
