By: iePresents Set in New York City, ”The Last Five Years” chronicles the relationship between novelist Jamie (played by David Jackson) and struggling actress Cathy (played by Catherine Brady) in the early 1990s. Today’s social media and smart phones are notably absent from this twenty-something romance. What remains are the very recognizable joys and struggles of modern love. Told almost completely in song, “The Last Five Years” explores the universal highs and lows in young adult relationships; The play provokes thoughtful reflection on our own unforgettable moments. Showcasing contemporary music, the score encompasses several genres played by a purely‐acoustic live orchestra under the exemplary musical direction of Amie Jan. The humor is by turns playful and profound, but always entertaining. This beloved alternative musical will be performed in the intimate setting of Theater on San Pedro Square. A feature film adaptation of the play is slated to release later 2014 starring Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan. Come see this unique piece of American musical theater the way it was intended before enjoying the movie.
