SAN JOSE, Calif. - May 23, 2014 - PRLog -- The hard truths of love and loss are explored in the musical ”The Last Five Years” making its San Jose premiere at Theater on San Pedro Square May 23–June 1, 2014.

Set in New York City, ”The Last Five Years” chronicles the relationship between novelist Jamie (played by David Jackson) and struggling actress Cathy (played by Catherine Brady) in the early 1990s. Today’s social media and smart phones are notably absent from this twenty-something romance. What remains are the very recognizable joys and struggles of modern love.

Told almost completely in song, “The Last Five Years” explores the universal highs and lows in young adult relationships; it is both heartwarming and heartbreaking. Cathy’s side of the story unfolds backwards in time, starting at the end of their life together. In contrast, Jamie conveys his perspective on the very same time period beginning with their first date and moving forward.

The play provokes thoughtful reflection on our own unforgettable moments. Showcasing contemporary music, the score encompasses several genres played by a purely‐acoustic live orchestra under the exemplary musical direction of Amie Jan. The humor is by turns playful and profound, but always entertaining.

This beloved alternative musical will be performed in the intimate setting of Theater on San Pedro Square. A feature film adaptation of the play is slated to release later 2014 starring Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan. Come see this unique piece of American musical theater the way it was intended before enjoying the movie.

This premier is the maiden voyage of i.e.Presents, a local theatre group created to produce theatre, develop projects to benefit the local community, and bring arts enrichment opportunities to Silicon Valley.

Director and Founder of i.e.Presents, Nancy McClymont, M.S. (a counselor and arts educator) combines her fascination with relationships and her love of theater in this surprisingly honest musical. Vocal direction is provided by Linda Middlebusher, who ensures that this demanding score is faithfully and healthfully delivered. The scenic designer is Jim Culley and the lighting designer is Anthony Sutton, both bring a unique point of view and a wealth of experience to the table.

Tickets start at $35 and are now on sale at i.e.Presents’ website: http://theatersanjose.wix.com/iepresents or on Brown Paper Tickets: http://last5yearssj.brownpapertickets.com/
