Foodsmith Fuels Santa Cruz D-League Warriors pro basketball team to playoffs with healthy meals

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - April 22, 2014 - PRLog -- Foodsmith (www.myfoodsmith.com), a Santa Cruz-based healthy meals company, is partnering with The Santa Cruz Warriors to provide healthy balance meals to the players throughout the Warriors’ finals run. Players and coaches receive chef-crafted, dietitian-approved healthy meals on a daily basis made with local and organic ingredients. Meals include breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as snacks including raw food smoothies and cold-pressed juices. Players have commented on the positive impact Foodsmith meals have had on their health and energy levels during the high intensity playoff run. The meals are designed for maximum nutritional density and low glycemic load with lean, hormone and antibiotic-free protein and are portioned to meet each players needs. The meals are priced between $4-$9 and are available to anyone. The Warriors have won their second round playoff series and are hosting the first game of the finals this week at Kaiser Permanente arena in Santa Cruz.

Foodsmith was founded by Chef Jamie Smith to make it easy for families to eat healthy and affordably by trimming the “fat” on the traditional food service model. Foodsmith sources all of its ingredients from local farmers and sells meals through multiple “drop spot” locations in Santa Cruz County, where customers can preorder meals and pick them up at a location convenient for them on their daily commute. By partnering with local businesses as drop spots, Foodsmith has lowered costs borne by a traditional restaurant so that their meals can stay affordably priced for families looking to eat healthy. Foodsmith also continues Jamie’s commitment to support the local youth community by partnering with local non-profits, Grind Out Hunger, Jovenes Sanos, the United Way and FoodWhat?!, to help bring youth awareness to healthy food choices, to help underserved youth find a path to jobs in the food industry and to advocate for food and social justice in our community and beyond. Chef Jamie is a 10 year Santa Cruz resident and former Director of the Santa Cruz City Schools School Nutrition Program.  He is the former owner/operator of Sestri, a local Italian restaurant that was named Restaurant of the Year in Santa Cruz after its first year in operation.  Chef Jamie is classically trained in French and Italian cuisines and has spent time in New York City and San Francisco honing his farm-to-table skills at many top restaurants.
