Retired Brigadier General Returns to MCAS Cherry Point Air Show for Special 70th Anniversary

April 21, 2014 - PRLog -- Retired Brigadier General George Bartlett will return to his training facility at MCAS Cherry Point for their annual air show on May 16th-18th in the same type of vehicle in which he departed 70 years ago in order to share Disabled American Veteran’s (http://www.dav.org) (DAV) message of support with local veterans.

Bartlett departed Cherry Point in 1944 for combat in the South Pacific on a PBJ (Patrol (P) Bomber (B) built by North American Aviation (J)-a navalized version of the B-25 Mitchell Bomber) Trained as Marine Sergeant bombardier-Navigator, he flew 75 combat missions.

Now, 70 years after he left Cherry Point in a B-25 he will return- just as he departed- in none other than a B-25.

Just as Bartlett was on an important mission 70 years ago, he returns to Cherry Point along side B-25 “Panchito” and the DAV Flight Team in order to provide information about DAV programs/benefits and to reminding people of the sacrifices veterans make for freedom.

“We are amazed at his (Bartlett’s) continued stamina and dedication to the Marine Corps throughout the years.  George was very involved with the Marine Corps Association for over a decade after his retirement.  We are very pleased to share this important anniversary with him and to have George at the show with the B-25 and with the DAV Flight Team. He is a gentleman and a true hero,” said B-25 “Panchito” owner and pilot Larry Kelley.
