SAN DIEGO - April 20, 2014 - PRLog -- In a battle of the 2 remaining unbeaten teams in the conference, San Diego Flash Soccer Club (4 - 0 - 1) came out on top over FC Force (4 - 1 - 0) by a final score of 3 - 1.

On a warm night in El Centro, Ca., FC Force, a new team in the National Premier Soccer League had a lot to be confident about. Since the beginning of the 2014 season, they have gone 4 - 0; with wins over all other conference rivals so far. The match tonight vs the veteran San Diego Flash would give them a measure of how good a team they really have.

San Diego Flash were just coming off of a furious come-from-behind draw with FC Temecula last weekend. After being down 3-1, the Flash scored 2 goals  in the final 17 minutes, to keep their unbeaten streak alive. A loss tonight would put the San Diego side in a bad position vs the conference leading Force, but they responded well.

The first 20 minutes saw each side take equal possession of the ball. However at the 23rd minute, FC Force player; #20 Christopher Luu showed the the home team came to play as he scored the first goal of the match.

However, as with what happened last week, the Flash know how to come back. In the 34th minute, #16 Edgar Mendez fired a shot into the back of the net from top of the left side of the box; his first goal of the season.

From that point forward the match got very physical. This was a concern as the Flash only had 1 extra player and 1 other Gk on the bench (other players stayed behind nursing injuries). Just 11 minutes later, after a huge scrum in front of the FC Force net, #22 Brandon Zuniga was able to somehow squeeze the ball in the net and that gave the Flash a 2 - 1 lead they took into halftime.

In the 2nd half, this time it was the Flash that got off to a quick start. Just 3 minutes in, Ryan guy fed #23 Sergio Valle-Ortiz'  a crisp pass down the center of the field, just as Ortiz was splitting the defenders. He then beat the Force Goalkeeper one-on-one to push the score to 3 - 1.

In the remaining minutes, Yellow and Red cars were issued to both teams. As time was winding down and the Flash were getting near the FC goal again with the ball, Flash player Brandon Zuniga was fouled in minute 82. However, as the 2 players got up, the referee gave a Red Card to Zuniga for what he said was throwing an elbow. This left San Diego a man down with 9 minutes in the match, plus what any stoppage time would be added (4 minutes).

The rest of the way, as much as FC Force tried to impose their will upon the Flash, San Diego has seen this before. They were able to match the intensity of the home team and ultimately came away with the impressive 3 - 1 victory and maintain an undefeated record.

Man of the Match; #22 Brandon Zuniga

Said Coach Warren Barton, "He played his tail off today. Everyone on our team knows the character of Brandon. He did not deserve a red card. Despite that call, we still believe he earned Man of the Match for his performance tonight."
