Yubixi Launches a New Mobile Social Network Based on Common Interests

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - April 3, 2014 - PRLog -- There’s a new kid on the social networking block, and they’re all about connecting you with other people based on common interests.

“Other social networks are about keeping you in touch with people you already know, or following people you know something about. We see a gap in helping people actually make new connections and we set out to make doing so easy and fun” said Scott Hooks, the CEO and co-founder of Yubixi. “We have created an experience that is centered on your true interests and provides a several ways to interact with others who share those interests.”

The app also factors in your location to let you know who and what is happening nearby. For example, imagine that you are new or traveling to an area and want to find other people your age who are interested in running or sushi or museums. Yubixi allows you to flip through or search profiles of people nearby with common interests, read a little bit about them, and start a conversation with them right from your smart phone. “We want to create a great user experience that makes it easy to make new friends anywhere you go without having to do something like join a group,” says Hooks, “whether it’s finding something to do, assembling a band, volunteering, some obscure hobby, or even making a potential business connection."

The app also provides news feeds and group discussion areas tailored your specific interests. There is a categorized list of over 300 typical interests to choose from, but you can also start your own interest topics and make them available to everyone else.

Privacy is also a top priority for Yubixi. The app provides people with the ability to control what others see about them, including their name, age, location, photo, and activity. You can also choose to limit your visibility to just men or just women, and of course you can block and report others for inappropriate content.

“Our hope is that Yubixi helps people make contact, but then they put their phones down and go be social,” says Hooks. “If they want to continue to use the app to communicate afterwards, we’re happy to support that too.”

The app will officially debut at the One Spark event in Jacksonville, Florida that starts on Wednesday April 9th and runs through Sunday, April 13th, but it is already in the Apple App Store and will be in the Android Marketplace (Google Play Store) a few days before the launch.  Click here for a sneak preview. http://www.youtube.com/yubixi
