Available on iPhone and Android, the app also provides audio commentary with music and sound effects to enlighten cruisers and teach them about the fascinating heritage the area holds.
So as you take in the breath-taking views from Glenridding to Pooley Bridge you can listen in to hear interesting facts and guidance on how to combine the cruise with some of the most famous and spectacular walks in the Lake District – including Wainwright’s favourite stroll.
You can discover how the cascading Scalehow Force waterwall became visible (thanks to some dynamite in the 19th century), which hotel is famous for its sticky toffee pudding, and the point where William Wordsworth stole a rowing boat and rowed out into the starlit lake.
And you will never be unsure where you are on the water thanks to the ‘boat tracker’, which uses a marker to show your exact location on a map of Ullswater.
What’s more, all the audio, map, text and pictures are stored locally within the app so there is no need for data signal.
Rachel Bell, group marketing and events manager, said: “
We believe in capturing the moment and this great new addition to our app will give our customers a chance to send a postcard telling friends and family of their journey and it’s free.
