KLAMPENBORG, Denmark - March 26, 2014 - PRLog -- As the world’s 17th largest economy and with a view to having the highest economic growth in the OECD during the next five years, the Turkish government has declared a goal of entering the top 10 of the world’s largest economies by 2023. Turkey has singled out the software industry as a significant growth engine, and is now actively investing in making Turkish software companies ready for international expansion and competition. And this is where Danish experts play an important part.

“The Turkish software market is growing rapidly. We must use our expanding domestic market as a springboard for growing the Turkish software industry and to take advantage of the market opportunities on a global scale. Only by developing global software companies can we retain our leading position domestically in an industry characterised by the winners-take-all phenomenon,” says Fatih Kemal Ebiçlioglu, Chairman of Electrical Electronics and Services Exporters' Association, TET.

Facts:
> Turkey (2013 figures) has a gross domestic product of approximately USD $1.167 trillion. In order to achieve the goal of becoming one of the world’s ten largest economies, the growth rate of Turkey has to top 7 percent per year.

> At present, the economy of Turkey is experiencing a growth rate of 3.8 percent per year. Indonesia is experiencing a growth rate of 5.8 percent, while the other “competitors” in the top 10 list have lower growth rates.

It is this very task that the Turkish government has asked TBK Consult to aid with. In collaboration with Sabanci University, under the government programme UR-GE, TBK Consult has already begun up-skilling 37 Turkish software companies. In addition, TBK Consult is working very closely with the Turkish Export Council to identify innovative ways to achieve their declared goal.

Net Export of USD $5 Billion
Turkey is struggling with a poor balance of payments. As the proportion of imports on software-based business models is close to zero percent, according to TBK Consult, a strong software industry will become a major net contributor of foreign currency to be used in other parts of the Turkish economy.

“Turkey today is a net importer of software. But by 2023, the Turkish software industry is set to contribute to the Turkish economy with USD $5 billion in net export. With a very large domestic market, there should in principle be no barriers to making use of Turkish software anywhere in the world. However, for this to happen, Turkish software companies need to learn how to act commercially outside Turkey,” says Hans Peter Bech, CEO of TBK Consult.

The project has taken on additional momentum as the Turkish presidential couple have recently been in Denmark on an official state visit to strengthen trade relations between the two countries. TBK Consult won the UR-GE project in open competition with other international consultancy houses and universities.
