Occidental Hotels & Resorts Renovates the Iconic Occidental El Embajador

During 2013, Occidental Hotels & Resorts embarked on an ambitious renovation program and modernization of the facilities of the flagship city hotel; respecting the classic design of the hotel.  The renovation was inspired by the rich history of the city, introduced modern colors and shades, as well as new furniture and upgrades in line with the illustrious hotel’s five star status for excellence in the Dominican Republic.

The new Lobby of the Occidental El Embajador has become the perfect setting to enjoy cocktails and tapas at the innovative "Gastro & Wine Bar" concept that offers a wine cellar with an extensive selection of wines and champagnes, along with traditional Spanish tapas and Caribbean fusion served in a cosmopolitan and elegant environment. Similarly the new lobby bar offers an area where guests can sample the best international cocktails and a wide selection of Dominican rum. The hotel’s glamorous lobby has become the meeting place of Santo Domingo for both business and leisure guests, in addition to being a local society favorite.

The Occidental El Embajador has 278 rooms and suites across various categories to meet the needs of discerning guests. Currently, 61 of the Superior Rooms have been completely renovated in a classical contemporary design, where neutral colors and new furniture invite guests to rest and relax.

The 104 of the rooms and suites - all with ocean or city views- are part of Club El Embajador, the executive floor of the hotel. These rooms have been completely renovated using warm colors and new furniture and feature a separate reception area and new private VIP Lounge.

The eighth floor of the hotel houses the most exclusive and private area of ​​the hotel, the Royal Club. Royal Club features 22 rooms and five suites which have been remodeled with new contemporary decor and furnishings continuing the new color palette of warm colors. The newly renovated Royal Club features an exclusive reception area, bar, restaurant and private meeting rooms, in addition to a magnificent terrace overlooking the hotel garden and the ocean.

Occidental El Embajador’s magnificent gardens provide two special events areas; The Garden Tent and The Garden Deck. The innovative Garden Tent- a state of the art pavilion– with maximum capacity of up to 700 people and  The Garden Deck terrace- situated around a century old tree - are unique spaces for exceptional weddings and events in the heart of Santo Domingo. . For the convenience of its guests, the legendary hotel has equipped its new parking facilities with more than 400 spaces.

Coinciding with the comprehensive renovation of Occidental El Embajador, the hotel has also launched a new catering and delivery service "El Embajador Gourmet" under the concept of the cuisine of the Occidental El Embajador for offsite events. Now, loyal fans of the El Embajador will be able to enjoy the icon’s distinctive gastronomic offerings in the comfort of their residences, businesses offices or venues around the city.

Subsequently, the hotel has also opened a gourmet market that will accept phone orders as well as online catering and delivery requests through their e-commerce site at “elembajadorgourmet.com”. The team is led by Occidental El Embajador’s renowned Executive Chef Alberto Martin. This new and innovative service has been designed to meet the needs of intimate events of 15 to large galas of 1,000, ensuring excellent cuisine anywhere in Santo Domingo and its surrounding areas.
