The school started as the Lincoln Normal School with $500 raised by nine freed slaves now known as the Marion Nine, making Alabama State University one of the nation’s oldest institutions of higher education founded for black Americans.

Dr. Ashbourne understands that the life for a women working in the entertainment industry can provide many challenges. He has created this symposium being held on March 13, 2014 to ensure that his female students get a real life lesson in what it is like to work in the entertainment industry as a female. Key points on how to be successful, how to avoid and overcome pitfalls and challenges,and how to being able to balance the lifestyle as not only a professional women but as a wife and mother.
Tara William's a divorced mother of two has been able to keep up with the hectic schedule of handling the marketing and branding for artists through developing Online Marketing and Social Media strategies, being a mother, who finds time to cook home cooked meals, juggle her sons sporting activities and still have her me time. All while making it look easy as 1-2-3. Dr. Ashbourne felt that because of Tara's "keeping it real" personality she will be just the jolt that his female students need to get the key points of her claim to fame...
