Stow Solar Challenge Reaches Tier 3 Savings, Saving Residents Thousands

STOW, Mass. - Feb. 18, 2014 - PRLog -- With the signing of a contract for a 10,464-watt solar electric system, the Stow Solar Challenge has achieved “Tier 3” savings, Arnold Epstein, solar coach for the Challenge and member of the Stow Energy Working Group, announced today.

The Stow Solar Challenge makes solar electric systems available at discounted prices. The more people and businesses signing up, the greater the discount. The program goal is to install at least 40 systems in Stow.

The initial, “Tier 1” price negotiated by the Stow Solar Challenge team of volunteers was discounted beyond standard prices, and each tier reached represents even greater savings. For example, Stow resident Greg Ames, who signed up in Tier 1, received $900 off his initial price when the Challenge reached Tier 2, and now he is receiving another $900 off since Tier 3 has been reached. In total, the nine people who have signed up so far are saving thousands on their solar costs.

“These extra discounts are worth it for the installer, New England Clean Energy, because the company is getting a lot of customers in one town, which reduces its operational and marketing costs,” Epstein explained.

The Stow Solar Challenge runs through the end of April. All customers benefit from the final tier discount, regardless of when in the program they sign up. Those signing up earlier will have their systems installed first. Stow homeowners and businesses can sign up for a free solar evaluation or get more information by visiting  www.SustainableStow.org or www.NewEnglandCleanEnergy.com/Stow; or calling 978-56-SOLAR.

The Stow Solar Challenge is being driven by the Stow Energy Working Group and local volunteers, with the endorsement of the town selectmen. To volunteer your time and skills, contact StowSolarChallenge@gmail.com
