Join Charlestown resident and National Park Ranger David Donovan for a virtual trip to America’s first National Park east of the Mississippi River, Acadia National Park located along the coast of Maine. Mr. Donovan will serve as guide as the audience explores Bar Harbor, Cadillac Mountain, Thunder Hole, and of course, Maine’s most famous crustacean, the downeast lobster. After the illustrated talk, the audience is invited to stay and enjoy a Maine treat!

David Donovan has taught High School Biology for more than 35 years, has been a camp director on Cape Cod, led nature walks throughout New England, and is a Massachusetts certified arborist. This summer, Donovan will begin his fifth year as a seasonal National Park ranger/naturalist at Acadia National Park. A Navy veteran, Donovan and his wife Mary Kay Donovan have been members of the Friends of the Charlestown Branch Library since 1970 serving as past presidents and board members.

The Friends of the Charlestown Branch Library was formed in 1953, becoming the second Friends group to organize within the Boston Public Library system. The Friends present four to six evening programs a year, support the Reading is FUNdamental programs for children, maintain the library’s landscaping, and raise funds to improve the branch library in countless other ways. The mission of the Friends remains today what it was in 1953: to serve as an advocacy and support group for the needs of the Charlestown Branch Library, its staff and users.
