Montgommery County Has Selected Ecollect To Assist In The Recovery Of Returned Checks

CLEVELAND - Jan. 16, 2014 - PRLog -- Montgomery County has selected eCollect to assist in the recovery of returned checks.  Effective 1/1/2014 any check written to Montgomery County for property taxes that is returned unpaid will be automatically forwarded to eCollect for recovery.  This change does not affect checks that clear on deposit or any other payment made to the county by credit or debit card.

eCollect works with government agencies, school districts, and private companies across the state of Ohio and nationwide.  There is no cost to Montgomery County to work with eCollect. Returned checks sent to eCollect are first verified for when sufficient funds are available to clear the payment.  When the check is processed again a returned check fee of up to $30 is also charged as allowed by Ohio law.

Carolyn Rice, Treasurer for Montgomery County says “We’re trying new ways to collect on taxes owed.  eCollect gives our office an additional resource to accomplish that goal.”
