MIAMI - Jan. 14, 2014 - PRLog -- MIAMI – The Association of Certified Financial Crime Specialists (ACFCS) today announced that the Monterey Institute of International Studies (MIIS) will offer a series of courses on Financial Crime Compliance that leads students to certification as Certified Financial Crime Specialists (CFCS).

Monterey Institute students who enroll in the Financial Crime Compliance courses beginning in the spring of 2014 will learn the legal, ethical and practical skills necessary to become top-tier financial crime specialists. These groundbreaking courses will use as the principal course textbook the extensive ACFCS Study Manual that candidates for CFCS certification receive to prepare for the certification examination.

The courses form part of the curriculum of the Graduate School of International Policy and Management at the renowned Monterey Institute of International Studies. This will prepare students for careers in the booming financial crime compliance field, which includes employers such as banks, securities dealers, insurance companies and money services businesses in the private sector, as well as regulatory, enforcement and legislative bodies in the public sector.

Students from a variety of Institute academic programs are expected to enroll in the courses, including students seeking credentials for careers in stolen asset recovery, students learning about trade-based money laundering and tax evasion, students interested in the financial aspects of counter-terrorism work, and MBA students training for careers in risk compliance.

The course will be led by Professor Moyara Ruehsen, a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist, who has been teaching courses in money laundering, terrorism financing, and international finance for the past fifteen years and has won numerous teaching awards. In addition to publishing in this field, she has also been an AML/CTF consultant and trainer for local, federal and foreign government entities.

“The Monterey Institute of International Studies has a unique model for transformative professional education that offers students career-enhancing opportunities and skills with a focus on globally pressing problems,” commented Yuwei Shi, dean of the Monterey Institute’s Graduate School of International Policy and Management.

“The partnership with ACFCS is an excellent outcome of the open learning architecture that the Institute has developed over the years to train cross-disciplinary, cross-border, and cross-sector professionals,” he added.

“ACFCS is proud to partner with a distinguished institution such as the Monterey Institute of International Studies. The Institute is known for its innovative approach to preparing its students with cutting-edge and practical skills and tools they need to embark on meaningful careers and be successful,” said Charles A. Intriago, president of ACFCS and a lawyer.

“Through this course and the certification that is offered to its students who complete the course, the Monterey Institute is placing students on a career path that has a worldwide reach and which can provide them with significant earnings with their newly-found, much-in-demand knowledge and skills," Intriago added.

CFCS is the only certification that encompasses the full spectrum of financial crime, including money laundering, fraud, tax evasion, corruption, compliance, enforcement and other areas.

“We are glad to be partnering with the Monterey Institute to train the next generation of financial crime professionals,” Intriago added.
