By: My Possibilities

PLANO, Texas - Nov. 13, 2013 - PRLog -- Art Conspiracy, a non-profit organization formed by North Texas-area artists and musicians, is hosting their annual fundraising event -- Art Con 9 on Saturday, Nov. 16. This year, the fundraiser is benefitting My Possibilities (http://www.mypossibilities.org/), a non-profit center dedicated to empowering disabled adults.  Tickets can be obtained online through http://prekindle.com/promo/id/22815447475348218.

Dedicated to raising funds and activating awareness for regional creative programs and causes, Art Con 9 will be held at 500 Singleton Blvd. from 7-11 p.m. in a warehouse located across the Calatrava Bridge from Downtown Dallas.  In a warehouse-turned-art studio more than 150 artists will create unique works of art on Art Con’s signature 18 x 18 inch plywood boards.  These pieces are then auctioned live, one at a time, to the event attendees with the proceeds donated to My Possibilities.

In addition to the artwork, Art Con provides nationally-recognized, local music acts to entertain guests for the evening.  Two bands – Zhora (featuring Taylor Rea formerly with Ishi), and the headliner New Fumes (Daniel Huffman of Polyphonic Spree) will play during the event.  DJ Empty Cylinder (Vinyl Fantasy) and a second surprise guest DJ will also play music for attendees.  In addition to the art and music, food, drink and fun are all hallmarks of Art Con events.

Proceeds from the Art Con auction will be used to purchase art equipment and supplies for My Possibilities (MP), a leader in providing programs for adults with various disabilities including Autism, Down Syndrome, Asperger, Prader-Willi, and head injuries. Funds will also underwrite field trips to various North Texas art galleries and museums such as the DMA, Nasher and Trammel Crow. As a 501(c)(3) organization, My Possibilities offers the first full day, full year continuing special needs adults’ education program in DFW for disabled Texans that have “aged out” of secondary education.

“My Possibilities is setting the standard when it comes to special needs adults’ education and artistic programs,” said Charmaine Solomon, founder and chairman of the board of directors of My Possibilities. “The community’s enthusiastic response to our mission has led to the center’s rapid expansion since we opened our doors in 2008. Just four months ago, we moved into a new 22,835 square-foot campus, with almost 20 percent of our classroom space dedicated to art and other creative activities.  Having the support from Art Con will allow us to continue developing more creative hands-on courses for our Hugely Important People – the HIPsters.”

“Since 2005, Art Con has raised more than $200,000 for a number of worthwhile causes throughout the DFW Metroplex, and we deeply appreciate being selected from so many other worthy non-profits.  The support of the Greater Dallas artistic community and other generous benefactors are the driving force behind the success of My Possibilities, and the reason we are able to be such a powerful advocate for our students,” added Michael Thomas, executive director.
