Dermatologist Specializing in Natural Skincare Begins Treating Patients via the Internet

NEW YORK - Oct. 31, 2013 - PRLog -- New York dermatologist uses holistic approach to skincare and treatment. He begins seeing patients worldwide, via Skype November 1st, 2013.

Solving patients' hard-to-treat skin problems using an integrative approach has been Dr. Dattner's specialty for over 30 years. And now he's serving patients across the US and in other countries via the internet, thanks to secure online forms and streaming video.

A long-time member of the American Academy of Dermatology, an Einstein Medical College-trained physician and board-certified Dermatologist, and former immunology research scientist at the National Institutes of Health, Dr. Dattner's newest practice opened at the Healthy Tao Center in New York at 250 West 49th Street, Suite 503, New York, NY, in 2007.

Dr. Dattner treats a wide variety of conditions, from acne to eczema, to rashes, digestive issues,  and autoimmune diseases.

Discussing what’s unique about the holistic approach he uses, Dattner says that he looks at the whole person, not just the specific condition or disease they have, but how it interrelates to other processes. “I treat the entire person, searching for the underlying causes of their disease so that when they've completed working with me, not only does their condition clear, but their energy, mood, digestion, and metabolism are better than ever." he says.

For decades, Dr. Dattner was an outspoken proponent of holistic and integrative methods of treatment, and not always well-regarded by his fellow physicians because of his unorthodox treatments. (Some of which include: using supplements and herbs, whenever possible, instead of pharmaceuticals, and spending much more time with patients to get to the bottom of their problem.)

But in the recent past, physicians like Andrew Weil, Deepak Chopra, Mehmet Oz, and Dean Ornish have publicly blazed a trail for a newer, more integrated kind of medicine that looks at the whole patient and treats conditions with the safest possible path. Dr. Dattner was perhaps the first to integrate this kind of treatment, using herbs and supplements and other innovative methods, into a dermatology practice over thirty years ago.

Dattner's expertise in the natural approach has garnered lots of attention from the press. He's been quoted in The New York Times, Oprah.com, The Huffington Post, Prevention, Self, Elle, Harper's Bazaar, Body + Soul, and more.

While he is a board-certified Dermatologist, Dr. Dattner takes a more holistic approach to medical problems, by looking at the entirety of their patient’s experience – their lifestyle, health-risk factors, environmental stressors and toxins, etc. Similarly, treatment is holistic and a multifactor approach is used.

Dattner says one of the most frequent conditions he treats is acne, which can appear long past adolescence, and cause secondary issues, including embarrassment and difficulty with social connections and even challenges at work.

There a number of ways to successfully treat acne – dietary changes, topical solutions, finding what patients are allergic to and eliminating it, lowering stress levels, etc. Dattner however reminds us there are no quick fixes for the skin condition that will be as effective or permanent as the kind of treatment he advocates.

He also treats related conditions to help improve digestion, hormones, metabolism, allergy, fatigue, and more, as well as the panoply of skin conditions people experience. Untreated skin conditions can be associated with depression, moodiness, weight gain, wrinkles and premature aging, lack of energy, and chronic pain.

Dattner is also a pioneer of environmentally-focused medicine, which he finds complements dermatology nicely, as many skin conditions have an allergic component directly traceable back to their work or home environment. “I spend many hours with medical journals, textbooks, and talking with colleagues, researching the details of the chemical interactions that may be causing my patient specific issues."

Acting much like a detective, Dattner can perform exhaustive tests which reveal what chemicals, cosmetics, fragrances, metals, dyes and other substances may be causing a patient’s skin problems. "These tests uncover specific allergens and irritants that may be causing hives, skin rashes and other conditions, even sinus congestion and headaches,” noted Dattner, "Alternatively, I often use Applied Kinesiology, to more affordably and quickly determine the causes and solutions for a patient's condition."

Dattner takes the most pride in his dedication to natural treatment of skin disease, “We use the most healthy possible treatments here,” he said. “If you are looking for the safest, most effective, most natural skincare possible, we are here for you, whether you'd like to be treated in-person or via the internet. We help people who have been to Western physicians and been to alternative medical practitioners, but can't seem to get help for their condition and need someone who specializes in both, and knows dermatology, inside and out.”
