Since its inception, the awards have grown to become a benchmark of excellence with consumers, toy makers and the media. The following toys won the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Platinum Award: These represent the most innovative, engaging new products of the year. The World of Eric Carle™ The Tiny Seed Soft Book As fabric books go, this is one of the sweetest. The illustrations look like Eric Carle paintings and each page has something interesting to touch and explore. The sun has ribbon rays and a little worm is hiding under a flip-down mound of green. The silky fabric pages have crinkle sound built-in and the front cover has a chewy corner with textures for teething babies. A good laptime book with sensory learning to share with baby. A nice shower gift or going-for-a- Age: Infants, Toddlers. Award Year: 2013. Bunnies by the Bay Hopscotch Blossom Plush Toy A sweet little six-inch bunny with fat legs that make it easy to clutch and light but soft to the touch. The under-stuffed body is filled like a beanbag at the bottom, so the doll can stand or be handled or tossed with ease. The bunny's head is in contrasting white velour with stitched features. A good choice for first lap games and one baby can grasp once she starts to reach out and take hold of things. Newborns and up. Age: Infants. Award Year: 2013 Baby Abuelito Pancho, Baby Abuelita Rosa First let us say, this looks like few Grandpas of the past fifty years that we have known. Even Great Grandpas of today do not look like this steroptyical. That said, this is a cuddly fabric doll that sings four charming folk songs in Spanish with a squeeze of his hand. He is more photogenic, than the matching Abuelita doll, so don't be put off. He's adorable in person, has a great singing voice, and his huggability factor is a 10! 2 & up.
