By: Polenberg Cooper The Foundation provides support during the pre-operative stages and the rehabilitative period; financial assistance to cover urgent needs including transportation, medications, temporary housing at the transplant center. Transplant Foundation with Transplant House Foundation have awarded over $3million dollars to support housing needs for transplant patients and providing additional assistance to hundreds in need of ancillary services. “Unquestionably, the number of successful transplants is limited by the critical shortage of donors,” said Polenberg. “ The Transplant Foundation supports ongoing donor education programs to educate the community and encourage organ donation and discussion within families.” Polenberg added that advancements in the field of transplantation have increased the possibilities for those with end-stage organ failure to receive a transplant and have a second chance at life. “Improvements will continue, especially in surgical techniques, organ preservation capabilities, and the knowledge and use of immunosuppressive therapy,” he said.
