2016 Ford Mustang Prototype Reveals New Clues

A prototype of the upcoming 2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 has been spotted, revealing new clues about the upcoming high-performance pony car.

BURNS HARBOR, Ind. - Oct. 9, 2013 - PRLog -- The next generation of the Ford Mustang will begin with the upcoming 2015 model, but for high-performance enthusiasts, Ford has something even more exciting in store for the future. Spy photographers have recently spotted a prototype of the upcoming 2016 Shelby GT350, which promises to be sleeker, more powerful, and better equipped than ever before.

Though the recently-spotted test mule was totally camouflaged, some new features are apparent. The new Shelby GT will feature functional vents on the hood and sides of the car. The general shape of the front end indicates that it will have a more athletic look than previous models. Interior shots indicate that the MyFord Touch infotainment system will also become an available feature. The test mule also sported all-new wheels with a striking matte black finish, a possible feature on the final production model.

The new Shelby will be all-motor, meaning that the engine won’t feature a turbocharger or supercharger. It will still be one of the most powerful engines found in any current pony car. The naturally-aspirated V8 engine is expected to deliver power ratings over 500 hp – though it will likely be more modest than the latest GT500 which can produce up to 662 hp.

Following the biggest trend in high-performance engineering, the new Shelby GT will likely feature a variety of carbon fiber components. This material allows for a strong, lightweight, and aerodynamic construction. This will likely give the new Shelby a lower weight-to-power ratio, which explains why Ford is choosing to reign in the engine power.

Since 2015 represents the 50th anniversary of the very first Ford Mustang, performance enthusiasts can expect a special-edition version of this classic pony car. The official unveiling of the 2015 Mustang models will likely occur sometime in 2013, while the 2016 Shelby GT will likely be revealed at the New York Auto Show in April 2014.
