By: Kathy Krantz Stewart -Publicist We are pleased to announce the immediate release of the script The Briton and the Dane, written by award winning producer, director and screenwriter Colin Stewart. The script/film project is part of a book series written by Mary Ann Bernal. An action-based drama in the same vein as the very successful History Channel series, Vikings. The script is based on Mary Ann Bernal’s epic adventure set in ninth century England when the bloodthirsty Vikings raped and pillaged their way across the length and the breadth of the dark and windswept lands. It is a story of love, betrayal, intrigue and warfare taking place in a realm of mystery and darkness, in a time long before William the Bastard’s hated Norman Conquest changed the country and eventually, the western world. Gwyneth, a young and beautiful Anglo-Saxon noblewoman, falls in love with a wounded Viking raider, Prince Erik, whom she discovers walking the beach after an abortive raid on a nearby village. Erik, smitten beyond hope, finds himself returning her love. Taking considerable risks, she shelters Prince Erik in the long forgotten Roman tunnels entrenched beneath the fortress where her father, Lord Richard, schools King Alfred’s elite Saxon warriors in the art of warfare and skilled sword craft. Through machinations and intrigues, Erik is eventually rescued by his countrymen, but he puts himself in grave danger when he swears to return to take Gwyneth’s hand in marriage. Unfortunately, while she awaits her hero, Gwyneth learns that her father has arranged her betrothal to Lord Cerdic of Chichester, a boorish, drunken and ruthless warrior, and a man twice her age. Defying her father, Gwyneth flees the fortress dressed as a boy, but is captured by Odulf, a Viking, who drags her to the Dane encampment where she is held hostage. Enraged, affronted but not wishing to risk another war, King Alfred orders Saxon search parties to scour the rain swept forests until she is found. Captive and now the focus of intense political intrigue, Gwyneth is submerged into a world of expediency, betrayal and black treachery. She soon realizes the truth is suspect, nothing is what it appears, and her perception of reality cannot be trusted. And all the time, the mutual longings of Erik and Gwyneth remain unsatisfied, and the death of love creeps into being. Eventually, King Alfred and the Danish King Guthrum meet and discuss terms. Gwyneth is ultimately freed, but no matter how much she pleads, and despite King Alfred being the fairest of Regents, Gwyneth and Erik’s union cannot be recognized, and she is taken back to the fortress at Wareham to await her fate. Refusing to accept the inevitable, Gwyneth schemes to be reunited with the only man she will ever love. Will true love reign over the complex politics of the kingdom? Or will the union usher unequalled bloodshed into the realm as two mighty warrior nations clash to preserve custom, ritual, honor and glory? Bernal has four published books in the series: The Briton and the Dane; The Briton and the Dane: Birthright; The Briton and the Dane: Legacy, which completes the trilogy. The Briton and the Dane: Concordia launched in early 2013. Please visit http://www.maryannbernal.com for purchase information and resource material.
