Follow on Google News | Texas Trust Names 16 Students to Youth Advisory Council to Equip Students with Financial SkillsBy: Texas Trust Credit Union The Youth Advisory Council was launched in 2011 as a leadership development program focusing on personal finance. The program is designed to teach and equip high school students with basic financial skills to prepare them for college and beyond. Council members meet twice a month to learn about personal financial issues, service leadership, marketing and career opportunities in the financial field. The Council will also participate in a community service project benefiting the Children's Medical Center. Members will also participate at several Texas Trust community events throughout the session. Members include five sophomores, four juniors, and seven seniors. Council members for the 2013 fall session are: • Arlington: • Cedar Hill: Thaddaeus Bacon (Cedar Hill Collegiate High School), Ryan Cameron (Cedar Hill High School) • DeSoto: • Fort Worth: Madeline Sullivan (Fort Worth Country Day School) • Grand Prairie: Jacob Brunson and Isaac Molina (Dubiski Career High School) • Mansfield: Fifty-six high school students applied for positions on the Council. The students chosen will serve through December 2013. "The Council is an interactive educational program that teaches and equips students with skills they will use throughout their lifetime," said Amber Danford, senior vice president of marketing. "The students also get to see how a financial institution operates, so they have a better understanding of how our financial system works."
