At Last the Kind of Book That Many of us Have Wanted to Read has Arrived!

No Longer Forgotten: The Voices of Our Ancestors Speak examines little known events of a South Carolina town

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Sept. 16, 2013 - PRLog -- Edgefield, SC— September 16, 2013 — “The “African American” stories of most American counties have traditionally been omitted. This however, did not stop eight family historians with South Carolina origins, from making a decision to alter the paradigm”, states Angela Y. Walton-Raji Author, Genealogist, and Podcaster for AfricanRootsPodcast.com.

A group of family historians, now called the Heritage Seekers, were not longtime friends. They did not have regular gatherings to discuss their family history. In fact, their paths only crossed while researching their individual families. Some would call it destiny, while those in the genealogy world would say, it was the ancestors who brought this group together to write about their common bond: Edgefield County, South Carolina.

In No Longer Forgotten: The Voices of Our Ancestors Speak each writer’s story begins with a trigger: a name, a place, an item, or an event that motivated them to seek additional information about their family. These seven unique stories give life to the enslaved, the land owners and the farmers of Edgefield, SC as their struggles and achievements are told through the eyes of their descendants. With an ongoing desire for families and communities to acknowledge and embrace their discoveries, the writers share the emotional experiences of the challenges they endured, the multiple brick walls they hit, and the secrets they discover.

"Looking at your cover, I am getting chills. To think, of how our ancestors toiled for generations from sunup to sunset, and to read the names of the descendants, who have met, and now  tell the world about these ancestors is a gift from above." states Douglas Culbreth, descendant of Tom Lee  who was enslaved on the Pickens Plantation in Edgefield, SC.

About
The Heritage Seekers are from five States – Maryland, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, New York and the District of Columbia. They are each accomplished genealogists and family history researchers in their own right, who have published articles in professional journals, blogs, and local newspapers, as well as provided presentations and organized family reunions. The Heritage Seekers continues to explore their own ancestral roots, and throughout the process has identified genealogical connections to each other that were not previously known.
