SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - Sept. 11, 2013 - PRLog -- Mason District Hospital recently received a national award for demonstrating excellence and innovation in their programs to communicate with patients, partners, and the communities they serve. The National Rural Health Resource Center (The Center) recognized Mason District for their innovative programs to improve population health, establishing a method for evaluating patient satisfaction and incorporate the resulting data into project planning, as well as developing partnerships with other organizations that serve a similar population and have similar goals.

“Receiving the Critical Access Hospital Recognition Award is an honor and a true testament to the commitment we have to leadership in healthcare and exceptional patient care at Mason District Hospital,”commented Harry Wolin, Administrator and CEO of Mason District Hospital.

The Critical Access Hospital Recognition award was established by The Center and the Federal Office of Rural Health Policy (ORHP) to recognize the excellent work in critical access hospitals (CAH) throughout the country. The recognition promotes excellence and innovation and honors the achievements and results of CAHs while publicizing successful strategies. Sixteen CAHs from around the country were nominated for recognition. “This year’s recipients embody both outstanding commitment to their communities and meaningful innovation,” said Terry Hill, Executive Director of The Center. “They demonstrate that rural hospitals can lead the way in the rapidly changing health care industry.”

Health care delivered in rural communities is affordable, high quality, and necessary to the good health of the entire community.  “Our health and wellness programs, medical partnerships, leading-edge diagnostics, and patient quality systems put us in a position to respond proactively to our community members, and provide the highest quality care and innovative services in our rural facility,” explained Wolin.

“Mason District is a perfect example of how a rural hospital can be a regional leader in healthcare -  I am so proud that they are being recognized for all the work they do.” added Pat Schou, CAH Regional Flex Coordinator.
