CHICAGO - Sept. 9, 2013 - PRLog -- CHICAGO, IL – September 9, 2013– Deadline fast approaching! – The Chicagoland Chapter of the American Society for Training and Development (CCASTD) is pleased to accept applications for the 7th annual Dr. Deborah Colky Workplace Learning & Performance Student Award.

The Dr. Deborah Colky Workplace Learning & Performance Student Award was established to honor the legacy of Dr. Deborah (“Deb”) Lavin Colky, Ed.D., published author, esteemed colleague, professor, and beloved mentor at Roosevelt University and her efforts to support students and the transformation of the learning profession.

Paula Frangella, 2013 CCASTD President, remembers friend and fellow CCASTD Board Member, Deb Colky:

“Deb was an amazing learning leader, inspiring mentor, and good friend; we miss her. In celebrating 70 years of serving the local learning community, CCASTD continues to value the same energy, passion, skills, and enthusiasm of students – just like Deb did. We are proud to be able to support these aspiring workplace learning & performance professionals in Deb’s name and as part of her enduring legacy.”

This CCASTD $1,000.00 cash award recognizes a student who shows excellent potential in the Workplace Learning & Performance (WLP) profession. Award recipients historically exhibit many of Deb’s qualities, including enthusiasm and patience that encourages personal growth and skill development of those around them. In addition, the committee is interested in applicants who are effective and efficient practitioners, passionate about organization development, people-centric, and, who like Deb, are humanistic.

Each year, one recipient is honored at the annual CCASTD Holiday Party which takes place in early December during ASTD Employee Learning Week.

During the party, the Student Award recipient is presented with a one-time cash award of $1,000.00, a commemorative plaque, a one year membership to CCASTD, and the opportunity to have one article published in the professional magazine Training Today.

The Award requires the recipient’s commitment to contribute time to the local community, in Deb’s name, by actively participating in events that promote raising visibility of the workplace learning & performance and the Chicagoland Chapter ASTD (CCASTD) through the end of December 2014.

Eligibility requirements are simple – If you are enrolled in a degree program that is related to the field of workplace learning and performance, are planning a career in the field, exhibit many of Dr. Deb Colky’s qualities as listed above, and reside in the Chicago area, you are eligible to apply.

For more information, or to apply, visit the Award page on the CCASTD Web site at http://www.ccastd.org/?page=Workplace_Award.

Completed applications must be received on or before November 10, 2013.

The Dr. Deborah Colky Workplace Learning & Performance Student Award will be awarded to a recipient based on a minimum number of eligible applications received.

CCASTD recognizes that many of Deb’s friends and colleagues would like to contribute funds to the future financing of this Award. If this is of interest to you, please contact CCASTD www.ccastd.org for details.
