Aug. 26, 2013 - PRLog -- Haunt Jaunts is not only a travel site for restless spirits, but it also operates a Halloween “Scareporium” that sells, what else? Halloween costumes and decorations. What trends are they seeing costume-wise this Halloween? They predict popular movies and television shows will once again rank among the biggest influencers.

“We noticed eight distinct trends in new Halloween costumes this year,” says Courtney Mroch, creator and founder of Haunt Jaunts.

The eight types of costumes Haunt Jaunts sees trending for Halloween 2013 are:

1.       American Horror Story

2.       The Lone Ranger

3.       Oz the Great and Powerful

4.       Queens, Kings, Warriors and Warlords

5.       The Roaring ‘20s

6.       Super Heroes and Villains

7.       Video Games

8.       Zombies

“Some, like superheroes and villains, are oldies but goodies you can rely on most years,” Mroch says. “But even a lot of those costumes are popular thanks to movies featuring the characters, like The Avengers and Kick Ass.”

Other movies that Haunt Jaunts says offer some of Halloween 2013's most dramatic costumes include Oz the Great and Powerful, The Great Gatsby, and The Lone Ranger.

“Flapper costumes seem to be available most Halloweens. It’s a fun and flirty classic. But thanks to the newest Great Gatsby movie, flapper costumes look to see a revival in popularity this year. And thanks to advancements in modern Halloween costume design, Oz the Great and Powerful has some really amazing costume choices, like the Finley flying monkey and flying baboon costumes. Super fun!”

Then there are the popular TV shows with distinct and memorable characters that are inspiring Halloween designs, such as American Horror Story, Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead.

“American Horror Story lends itself naturally to Halloween. Creepy storylines filled with creepy characters wearing distinct outfits. It was inevitable you’d find a Bloody Face mask on the market this year. But a clever costume inspired by the series that we came across but weren’t expecting to was the White Nun. Creeptastic!"

Speaking of creepy, if zombies give you the heebie jeebies, beware when you head out to trick or treat. It seems their popularity hasn’t piqued yet. If a costume can be “zombiefied,” it has been. Zombie brides and grooms, zombie cheerleaders, zombie waitresses…you name it, you can find it in zombie form.

“Everything seems to have a zombie spin-off these days, but we saw a few zombie costumes that surprised us. Like the October Feast and Zombie Beer Maiden costumes. Funny and would make either great individual or couple costumes choices.”

Never fear though. Zombie hunter costumes are also popular. Or team up with a Game of Thrones-like, sword-wielding warrior to protect you. Or hope for a superhero to come to your rescue. For this Halloween, at least, superheroes have remained impervious to zombification.
