NEW YORK - Aug. 13, 2013 - PRLog -- TOMI OTEE continues its environmental commitment in the apparel world by partnering with The Deutsche Bank Championship (DBC) – one the PGA tour’s most sustainable tournaments – to outfit 2,000 “Blue Crew” volunteers and staff at this year’s Championship golf event with eco-friendly performance apparel.

The Championship, which runs from August 28-September 2, is one of the PGA TOUR’s premier events, drawing 100 of the world’s top golfers to TPC Boston in Norton, Mass. Now in its 11th year, the DBC has generated over $24 million for the Tiger Woods Foundation and local New England charities.

In addition to outfitting staff and volunteers with eco-friendly apparel, TOMI OTEE and the Deutsche Bank Championship are kicking off the “Positive Impact Program,” in which textile recycling bins will be installed in high-traffic locations around TPC Boston. The bins will hold any type of used and wearable, clean textiles including shoes, clothing, bedding, curtains, rugs and the like. The items will be either exported to developing economies or local thrift stores. Textiles destined for recycling are sold in bulk to mills, with profits directed back to the Tiger Woods Foundation.

This year’s “Blue Crew” will be wearing sustainable apparel provided by TOMI OTEE throughout Championship week. All of the steps involved in the development of its clothing are sustainable; including sourcing, using sustainable raw materials and its recycling program. The items are designed in New York and manufactured in Philadelphia.

TOMI OTEE’s goal is to influence consumers to think sustainably in their practice of golf and in their consuming habits – all while looking good in fashionable clothing.

“We are proud to bring back ‘Made in the USA’ to the PGA TOUR,” said Thomas Ferre, president of TOMI OTEE. “The entire community stands to benefit from local design and production, through job creation and a better product experience for the people wearing our designs.”

The DBC has long been at the forefront of sustainability initiatives. In 2008 it became the first and only “carbon neutral” event on the PGA TOUR, a designation it still holds today, and in 2010 it adopted significant measures to reduce its carbon footprint.

“We are proud to take another step in advancing our environmentally-conscious agenda,” said Eric Baldwin, director of the Deutsche Bank Championship. “We hope that the national stage of the DBC will raise awareness and drive implementation of sustainability practices among millions of golf fans.”
